How Aligning Strengths to Values Unlocks Your Potential
Have you ever felt like you’re adapting more than leading? Like you’re moulding yourself into what others need—without really knowing where you shine.
For a large portion of my life, I second-guessed who I was and where I added value. I often found myself shifting to meet others’ expectations. I’d try to be what others needed, rather than operating from who I truly was. Sound familiar?
Everything changed the day I took the CliftonStrengths assessment and received coaching around it.
Suddenly, I had language to describe myself—not just what I could do, but where I was naturally strong. It was as if a fog had lifted. I wasn’t broken or dysfunctional, I was wired in a specific way that could serve people and make a real impact.
The more I leaned into understanding my strengths, the more confident I became. And the more confidence I had, the easier it became for others to see what I brought to the table too.
But it didn’t stop there. When I paired my strengths with clarity around my values, everything accelerated. I discovered that my top values—like freedom, family, fun, leadership, wisdom, and generosity—gave me a compass. They helped me align my strengths with what mattered most.
When strengths and values come together, we become more intentional, more influential, and more impactful.
Values provide the why.
Strengths provide the how.
When you bring both your Strengths and Values into alignment, you gain clarity, direction, and resilience. And you stop trying to be someone you’re not.

3 Practical Tips for Aligning Strengths to Values:
Take the CliftonStrengths Assessment: Start by discovering your top 5 strengths. Reflect on how they show up in your day-to-day life.
Clarify Your Core Values: Ask yourself what matters most? Use tools like the Effective Influence Values Exercise.
Match Strengths to Values: Look at how your strengths support your values. For example, if ‘Relator’ is your strength and ‘Connection’ is your value, you might thrive in mentoring or relationship-building roles.
