The Power of Showing Up: How Your Presence Influences

Are you aware of how you influence the space you lead? Constantly you are sending communications from yourself that are relative to your personal state. The messages you send could be working for you, or against you.

One year for my birthday, my wife had organised a group of friends to join in a surprise activity. She didn’t tell me what the activity was, just that I needed to wear a white tee shirt. It didn’t dawn on me when we arrived at the activity, (Laser Tag) that everyone else was in darker colours.  The arena was dark, so I pretty much stood out like a beacon. I was lucky that day because despite my handicap, I still came out with a semi decent score. However, it could have been much better had I shown up with the right attire.

How you show up has an impact on your productivity. How you show up affects your team.

As an entrepreneur, business owner, or simply an amazing human, how you show up matters. Your character and attitude profoundly influence what and how you lead. Showing up with integrity, passion, and resilience every day isn't just a mantra; it's a powerful strategy that can transform your business and impact everyone around you.

When you show up, who does it affect?

1. Your Business

Your character and attitude shape your company culture, impact team morale, and influence the customer experience. A positive and resilient demeanour can inspire your team and build trust with clients. When you demonstrate determination and adaptability, your business becomes a reflection of these values, which can lead to increased loyalty and engagement from both your team, customers, and connections.

2. Your Team

As a leader, you set the tone for your team. How you show up affects their motivation, productivity, and overall job satisfaction. A supportive and consistent leader fosters a healthy and engaging work environment. When a team sees their leader tackling challenges head-on with a positive attitude, it encourages them to adopt a similar mindset. This creates a workplace where resilience and teamwork thrive, leading to higher performance and job satisfaction.

3. Your Customers

Customers are more likely to trust and remain loyal to a business that demonstrates strong values and a positive attitude. Your character and attitude can significantly impact their perception of your brand. By showing up with integrity and a genuine commitment to customer service, you build lasting relationships with your customers. This not only drives repeat business but also turns customers into advocates who spread the word about your brand.

4. Your Community

As a business owner, you have a broader impact on your local community. Your actions and attitude contribute to the community's economic health and social well-being. By actively participating in community events, supporting local initiatives, and showing up as a reliable and positive presence, you help build a stronger, more connected community. This can lead to increased local support and a positive reputation for your business.

5. Yourself

Showing up is more than just being present; it's about bringing your best self to every situation. Your presence is your power, and how you show up can make a significant difference in your business and beyond. By embodying integrity, passion, and resilience, you not only enhance your business but also positively impact your employees, customers, community, and yourself.

Clothe yourself with a mindset of gratefulness and growth, watch how it impacts those around you.

My Learnings:

  • If I can’t understand myself, I won’t know how that affects those around me.

  • My attitude and character matter most towards how I will influence those around me.

  • Greater self-awareness will foster success in my influence.

  • So, show up, be present, and make a difference. Your character and attitude are the foundation of your success, they have the power to influence and inspire those around you.

My Questions for You:

  • How do you believe your current attitude and character are influencing your business and relationships?

  • In what ways can you enhance your self-awareness to better understand the messages you are sending to others?

  • What specific actions can you take to ensure that you are clothing yourself with integrity, passion, and resilience every day?
