Connected: Woven together for a reason

While watching period dramas on Netflix, I have observed that in the Middle Ages, tapestries captured significant moments of history, they were like pictures in time. After an event like a victorious battle, a team of weavers assembled to apply their skill, in creating a story line of pictures that are woven from cloth and coloured thread to portray the historical event. Each weaver is an architect of their part of the story. Each strand of thread is intricately positioned and woven with other strands to become part of a larger work that defined history.

It is amazing what different coloured threads create when woven together. Not dissimilar to pixels on a screen. This is a good metaphor for each of us. We are like coloured threads, and we can all have a part to play in something great given the right connections and vision.

 “Woven together for a purpose”

We can get caught up in living life independently without realising that we would be more effective working with others. We should always look for opportunities to be part of something bigger than ourselves and more importantly, something that includes others.

To see where we belong in a great timeline of history, we need to:

Know where we add value (What colour is your thread)

·       Be self- aware and know what you are good at and do more of that

Have vision and purpose (Where will your thread be placed)

·       Know why you exist, find purpose or be part of someone else’s

Grow personally (How strong is your thread)

·       Aim to be the best version of yourself, always

Be around the right people (Does your thread complement the picture)

·       Align with others that help you be your best

It is the collectiveness and placement of the threads that creates a meaningful picture. It requires more than one thread to create a picture.

My 5 Learnings:

·       I can be part of something greater than myself

·       Be clear about why I exist and what my part is

·       Always work on being the best version of myself

·       Discover where I add value and do it more

·       Working in with others has greater effect

Always be prepared and ready to be part of something great, even if you are not sure what it is yet.

My 3 Questions for you:

·       Does what you are doing now have meaning and purpose?

·       Are the people around you bringing out your best?

·       How can you support those around you, more effectively?
