Help: Life is hard
“If you are under water, you can’t breathe, but the further down you go under water the harder it is for your body to cope, the weight of the water increases and starts to affect the function and response of the body and mind.
Competitive free divers are testimony to this every time they enter a deep free dive. World record deep diver Alexey Molchanov, before descending into the ocean depths, performs a discipline called "lung packing," a breathing technique that allows him to inflate his lungs with as much as 7.57 litres of air. This allows him to dive 130 metres in 4.30 minutes on one single breath. His mind and body are fully prepared for this experience.
“No matter how deep the water is, once we are under, we can’t breathe”
Divers do a lot of preparation and training for freediving, nothing is left to chance, they are very intentional with their disciplines and routines. Below are 8 tips for freediving:
· Never dive alone
· Take a Free Diver course
· Have fun
· Learn about your environment and protect it
· Relax
· Visualize
· Have the essential freediving equipment
· Learn from everyone you can.
When life gets overwhelming, it can feel like being underwater, unable to breathe. We can easily panic and feel the overwhelming pressure because of the physical and psychological weight. We can consider the 8 tips for freediving as relevant to help us when life becomes too hard:
· Don’t do life alone
- Ensure you have supportive and caring people around you
· Take a course
- Don’t leave life to chance, continue to upskill, and grow
· Have fun
- Have things that you can look forward to and laugh often
· Learn about your environment and protect it
- Care for and be grateful for who and what you have
· Relax
- Take time out for yourself to refuel, rest and recharge
· Visualize
- Know your purpose and the future you want to be a part of
· Equipment
- Equip yourself with what you need to be fulfilled and whole
· Learn from everyone you can.
- Seek help from people, especially in relation to situations you are going through
Usually when life becomes hard and overwhelming, we have either lost sight of key disciplines or we have not been prepared for what it throws at us.
My 5 Learnings:
· Life gets hard sometimes
· When life gets hard, it’s like being underwater
· Continue to grow and learn
· Have things to look forward to
· Reach out to others for help
Life will challenge us in many ways and although we can’t prepare for everything, we can be equipped to deal with each situation as we face it. Remaining optimistic is helpful but not a long-term strategy for dealing with an overwhelming life.
My 3 Questions for you:
· Have you lost sight of some daily disciplines and routines?
· Do you have the right people around you who lift you up and support you?
· Are you trying to deal with too much?
“You don't drown by falling into water. You only drown if you stay there.”
